Nissan DeltaWing survives unscathed
Good news - the Nissan DeltaWing has scored its first ever race finish!

At last weekend's Petit Le Mans, the DeltaWing finished in fifth place overall.
The result will come as a relief to petrolheads, as they will know the Batmobile-like racing car has had a hard time of it in endurance racing up until now.

In its first outing at the gruelling Le Mans 24 hours race in June, the DeltaWing was punted off the track by a Toyota.

And last week in testing for the weekend's 1000-mile Petite Le Mans at Road Atlanta, North America, a similar accident occurred, only this time it was with a Porsche.

The Nissan team worked through the night to repair the DeltaWing and to make it race-worthy.

However, that's not to say the DeltaWing did not encounter some controversy. The car qualified in 10th but was relegated to the back of the grid for the start of the race.

Race organisers said the car should start from the back as it was an unclassified entry, putting the DeltaWing into danger as it tried to make its way through the field during the race.

The DeltaWing is only half the weight and has half the horsepower and half the aerodynamic drag of a typical Le Mans sportscar. It allowed driver Gunnar Jeannette completed a quadruple stint without changing tyres!

We look forward to seeing more of the DeltaWing in the future, but until then watch last week's crash again and be amazed at how Jeannette walked away from this...
