Renault's budget brand has announced it's received 1,000 orders for its Duster SUV - three months before it officially arrives in Dacia's 135 dealer showrooms across the UK.
The firm says the orders reveal "loads of intriguing buying patterns".
Well over half of orders have been for the top-spec Laureate model which starts at £12,995.
Meanwhile a sixth of buyers have plumped for the entry-level £8,995 model. To match its bargain-basement price, Access models come with black plastic bumpers and no radio.
Topping the sales chart in terms of geographical appeal is Wales, with Cardiff and Swansea postcodes dominating.
Scotland is not far behind, while in England, it's Liverpudlians who seem to have fallen for the Duster's charms.
Interest is also strong in areas such as Brighton, Kettering, Middlesborough and Yeovil.
Dacia's marketing director, Phil York, said: "We always knew Dacia had the potential to tap into a stagnant UK new car market. Our Duster flagship is off to a great start even before we've received our first right-hand-drive shipment.
"We've jealously watched our European neighbours sell Dacias by the thousand over the last few years, so it's not just great for us, but more importantly for British buyers, that there's a new "smart buy" in the car market.
"All at "shockingly affordable" prices, with attractive styling, frugal and efficient engines, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to work out that we're confident the British public will take Dacia to their hearts."
