330GT makes £60kBonhams

A rare Ferrari sold at auction this week fetched around twice what auctioneers estimated it would go for.

The rather sorry-looking 1965 Ferrari 330GT 2+2 Berlinetta sold for a hammer price of £60,000 at a Bonhams auction in Harrogate, north Yorkshire, this week.
It was originally expected to make between £30,000 and £40,000 - as AOL Cars reported last week.

The 330GT was only really fit as a project car for a budding restorer after years being left in a garage took its toll. It was covered in moss, the once sumptuous leather upholstery was ripped and the wheels and chrome work were rusty and tarnished.

But it is thought the car, which has 57,000 miles on the clock, could be worth £150,000 if it is brought back to its former glory.

Its eventual £60,000 price tag did not includes the buyers premium, which will add about £9,000 to the purchaser's bill.

The classic motor, which is unusual because it was the first Ferrari designed to be used by families and had four seats, was the last of hundreds of lots to be auctioned today.

Other cars to go under the hammer were a 1931 Rolls Royce 20/25hp eight-seater Shooting Brake once used as an ambulance which made £39,100, and a 1950 Delahaye Type 135M 3.6-Litre Coupe which went for £55,200.
