After setting a World Record for the fastest car to cover 1 mile in reverse at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in July, the Nissan Leaf has now set a second World Record, this time at Silverstone.
Although the Leaf is almost completely silent on the move thanks to its electric motor, it wasn't the quietest lap of Silverstone drivers were aiming to achieve. In fact, they were aiming to set the largest parade of electric cars in the world ever, with nearly 300 Leafs in attendance.Packing this amount of cars on one track is a challenge within itself, as not many circuits are big enough to take this number of cars. In fact, Silverstone is the only place in the UK big enough to accommodate this number of cars in one closed location, and once all lined up, there were mere meters of space left. Ferrari set a world record for the largest parade of Ferrari cars in September and resorted to going three-wide to fit more than 900 cars on the circuit.
With the circuit buzzing with anticipation (and fully charged batteries) the convoy of 230-cars completed one lap of the famous circuit. This was then later confirmed at the circuit as a World Record, with each driver being awarded a certificate to mark their participation with the attempt.
With electric car ownership increasingly popular within the UK, organisers are hoping to better the world record in the future, and may even resort to smaller models like the Renault Twizy to maximise the space available!
