A Tweet sent out by the West Midlands Police press office read: "The West Midlands Police area has seen a large amount of Mini (BMW model) wing mirrors being stolen and this is now starting to happen on North Warwickshire, in particular Water Orton and Coleshill areas.
"If possible, park your vehicle in a garage or try to park your vehicle in a well lit area that is over looked. If you have any friends or family members who own Minis and may not have seen this message, please pass it on to them."
This isn't the first time Mini owners have been victims of mirror theft, the Mini2 forum is rife with users from all over the country warning about outbreaks of similar criminal activity.
Mini commented on their Facebook page: "There is no standardised requirement for a vehicle manufacturer to fit security bolts onto wing mirrors, furthermore, the wing mirror fixings on all Mini models are approved for the UK market.
"In the event of a theft, we would recommend contacting the police and your vehicle insurers at your earliest convenience."
Many eagle-eyed Mini owners have hit back, claiming that the excess cost on most insurance policies hugely outweighs the price of security bolts- of which, aftermarket products are available on eBay for as little as £7.
