Perfect retirement vehicles for the PopeFiat

Pope Benedict XVI stunned the world this week when the 85-year-old announced he would be standing down.

Poor health and old age have caught up with the Pope who will be the first to resign in 600 years. But eight years of being ferried around in the famous Popemobile will make the transition to "normal" cars difficult when Pope Benedict finally steps down from his position.
AOL Cars has come up with a list of motors that will make the jump from "holy high-roller" to "regular Joe" much easier.

Fiat Doblo

The little French MPV already has the air of a Popemobile, with its square rear quarters and large glass windows. The Pope could happily sit in the back and wave at passers-by on his way to the shops to relive the "good old days". Prices start at around £14,000 while the MultiJet engine is frugal yet refined. And yes, it comes in white.

Kia Soul

The boxy rear of the Korean SUV may not boast the sort of height that allows its occupants to stand (and wave) but it does feature plenty of legroom on longer journeys. The Pope may also find rear visibility a slight issue but the £12,795 base price might be appealing on a pension.

Renault Kangoo Van Z.E

The Pope may be 85-years-old but that doesn't mean he can't be environmentally conscious. The Kangoo Z.E produces zero emissions and can be charged by plugging it into a standard wall socket. Expect 106 miles of pure-electric Papal parading and a built-in pollen filter to battle pesky summer allergies. Renault will likely put some windows in the back for the right price.

Vauxhall Zafira Tourer

It's big, it's sensible and there is room inside for up to seven occupants, meaning Pope Benedict XVI can enjoy days out with his fellow retirees. Even when fully laden, the Zafira Tourer can easily swallow a couple of sets of golf clubs. The £21,000 asking might be a bit of a push on retirement funds, though.

Toyota Prius Campervan

Jeremy Clarkson received a slap on the wrist when he compared the bizarrely proportioned Prius Campervan to the Elephant Man but that doesn't mean this wouldn't make a great set of wheels for the retired Pope. The reinforced plastic shell can be bolted on to any Prius and provides a snug place for the retired head of the Catholic Church to catch up on sleep. Unfortunately, he'll have to visit Japan to purchase it.
