Burning rubber: McLaren MP4-12C goes up in flamesMcLaren Automotive

A man has escaped with minor injuries after the £170,000 McLaren MP4-12C he was driving suddenly burst into flames.

The vehicle was said to have been rented by a male driver before it caught fire in Tottenham Hale, North London.
The terrified driver reportedly threw himself from the supercar, escaping with minor burns.

Unfortunately, the car wasn't so lucky. Witnesses say the vehicle wasn't involved in an accident and instead spontaneously combusted at the side of the road.

William Bryce, who was at the scene, told The Sun: "I thought it was a movie stunt. It just burst into flames."

The McLaren MP4-12C features a 592bhp V8 engine that is capable of hitting 62mph from a standstill in just over three seconds and can tackle a top speed of 205mph.

The vehicle in question is now back at McLaren's technology centre in Woking where it is under investigation by engineers.

A McLaren spokesperson told us: "We are treating the situation very seriously and are working closely with the insurance company in question to get to the bottom of it.

"Safety is of top priority at the moment, so we have the vehicle back at our technology centre where it is being examined by experts."

"We cannot comment on any findings at this time," he added.
