23-year-old midwife Hannah Seeley was returning home from work when her Ford Fiesta was struck by a Volkswagen Golf owned by Luke Anderson.
Anderson had been speeding along a wet country road at up to 81mph when he lost control on a bend, Bury St Edmunds magistrates' court heard.
He suffered serious leg injuries and has developed a speech impediment after the collision, which occurred on April 22 last year.
Seeley, who was due to be married shortly after the accident, died at the scene and was later buried in her wedding dress.
After admitting causing death by dangerous driving, Anderson was handed a two year driving ban on top of his custodial sentence.
Passing sentence, Magistrate John Devaux said: "You were driving at a speed that was in excess of the speed limit and too high for you to negotiate the bend safely in wet conditions."
"You were solely responsible for a collision which ended the life of a 23-year-old midwife."
In mitigation, Anderson's lawyer stated that if the conditions had been different, the outcome would not have been the same.
"He was driving too fast for the conditions," he said. "There is no evidence that in other conditions this driving would have produced this result."
"This tragedy was the result of an error of judgement. He is truly sorry for what he has done."
