Porsche celebrates 50 years of the 911 with limited edition modelPorsche

To commemorate 50 years of the iconic 911, Porsche has created a special model that will be limited to just 1,963 units worldwide - that figure itself a nod to the 911's birth year.

Based on the 911 Carrera S, the special edition boasts a rear-mounted, 398bhp flat-six engine that drives the rear wheels.
Other bespoke touches include a wider body - 44mm across the rear wheel arches - that is usually reserved for the all-wheel drive Carrera 4 models.

Notable styling upgrades also include: chrome strips on the fins of the engine compartment grille that hint at the rear-engined nature of this sportscar, alloy wheels that have been influenced by the iconic 'Fuchs' rims that were first introduced to the 911 in 1966 and two unique and retro-inspired paintjobs.

This isn't just a styling exercise though, as the Porsche Active Suspension Management system has been fettled to cope with the wider track and a sports exhaust system makes sure drivers and passers-by enjoy the aural entertainment.

The engine that produces the audible fireworks is a 398bhp, 3.8-litre flat-six that rockets the limited edition 911 to 62mph from a standstill in just 4.5 seconds - or 4.3 seconds if you opt for the lightning quick PDK transmission.

Top speed is 186mph yet a fairly respectable fuel consumption figure of 29.7mpg on the combine cycle is achievable.

The 911 50 Years Edition is available to order now from Porsche Centres in the UK and Ireland, priced from £92,257. First right-hand drive deliveries will arrive in September.
