You might know TomTom best for the funny voices in your car telling you which way to go. But the sav nav specialists are branching out from route-directing and launching a new hands-free car kit for smartphones.
The kit comes in two versions, to work with the iPhone or other smartphones that use a micro USB charger such as Android phones. It features an advanced noise and echo cancellation system designed to reduce background noise for the caller and remove ambient noise for the driver.
There are also new mounting options to make use of the system safer and more convenient including an adjustable grip to fit any smartphone with or without its cover as well as an extendable microphone which can be clipped to the sun visor for clear conversations.
It can be paired to two mobile devices at the same time via Bluetooth, voice-recognition can be activated so the driver can navigate and dial their phone without taking hands off the wheel and fast charging on-the-go is promised.
The iPhone or smartphones version of the new hands-free car kit costs £79.95 while the kit that includes a Western Europe navigation app is priced at £129.95.
TomTom said its aim is to "help drivers keep their hands on the wheel and their eyes on the road".
"The new car kit has been designed for safety and convenience,"said TomTom boss Corinne Vigreux. "With fantastic audio quality and new mounting options, we are making it easier and safer for drivers to make calls and use navigation applications on the move."
