With only two models currently in its range, Alfa Romeo is keeping up the appeal of its MiTo and Giulietta models by adding a new sporty trim level.
The Sportiva trim adds more kit for a reduced cost. Building on the Distinctive trim, the MiTo Sportiva adds £1,500 of options for a £750 premium over the regular car. There's Sportiva badging, 18-inch alloys and black leather steering wheel and handbrake as well as black Alcantara sport seats.
Alongside the supermini sits Alfa's Golf rival, the Giulietta hatch which gets 18-inch alloys and red Brembo brake calipers, plus sports leather upholstery. Alfa Romeo reckons that the additions offer £3,000-worth of upgrades for the cost of £1,860.
The Alfa MiTo Sportiva is available with three engine options: the 85bhp TwinAir, at £16,100, the 1.4-litre 135bhp MultiAir for £17,000 and the 120bhp 1.6-litre diesel at £17,750.
The Alfa Giulietta Sportiva is available with a choice of six engines, starting at £23,110 for the 105bhp 1.6-litre diesel.
The Italian brand recently extended its current three-year warranty by a further two years across the MiTo and Giulietta product ranges to "provide retail customers with added peace of mind on their new car purchases" until the end of September.
Damien Dally, Alfa Romeo head of brand said: "Our strategy for the brand is all about attracting new customers. However, we appreciate in the current climate consumers are more risk averse and likely to stay with what they know.
"The Alfa Romeo brand has always had a strong emotional pull but we also have complete confidence in its rational credentials and believe our new extended five year warranty provides the retail car buyer with complete peace of mind."
