David Cameron's Fiat 500
When you think of David Cameron, which cars spring to mind?

The extremely luxurious Jaguar XJ saloon he's often seen exiting? Perhaps the effortlessly British Mini Cooper he posed with shortly before the Olympics?
It's surprising then that one of the PM's former cars - up for sale at auction this week - is none other than a very small, very Italian 1971 Fiat 500.

Bought by Cameron in 1998 as a surprise present for wife Samantha, the mini-slice of Italy was sold on ten years later - having clocked up just 1,000 miles in the couple's care, and a believed 13,000 miles over its entire lifetime.

Fully restored with gleaming white paintwork, the tiny Fiat is expected to reach between £8,000 and £12,000 when it goes under the hammer on 17th November at the Footman James Classic Motor Show, held at the NEC in Birmingham.

"No matter what your political persuasion," said Nick Whale, managing director of Silverstone Auctions, "this is one cool car and we are delighted to be able to offer it for auction at our sale in November.

"After all, it's not every day that you get the chance to bid for a car that was once owned by a global figure."

Happily - judging by the 500's pristine condition - it doesn't look like the PM has been in charge of its parking...
