The latest Euro NCAP results are out with all of the cars tested being awarded a full five-star rating.

Having completed testing the latest crop of cars, examiners have been impressed with the standards being achieved with safety, regardless of the cars' size, price or weight.
Awarded a full five stars were the new Fiat 500L; Ford's updated Fiesta and Kuga; the Hyundai Santa Fe; Mercedes-Benz A-Class; Mitsubishi Outlander; Vauxhall Mokka; SEAT's Leon and Toledo; the Skoda Rapid; Subaru Forester; new Range Rover; Volvo's V60 Plug-In Hybrid and the new VW Golf.

The Range Rover was one of the highest-ranking cars in the results, despite not yet being fitted with head-rests which will feature anti-whiplash devices for additional safety.Judges noted that the recent weight savings achieved by the British brand haven't affected the car's safety. Another brand commended for their continued safety record was Volvo with the V60 Plug-In Hybrid.

The new model carries an additional 350kg thanks to the new Hybrid powertrain technology. Despite this extra weight, the Volvo still scored a full five stars, with none of the new components affecting the car's overall safety for occupants or pedestrians.

Scoring highest for child occupant safety was the new SEAT Leon, achieving a impressive 92 per cent. The Hyundai Santa Fe and Vauxhall Mokka scored best in adult occupant safety, at 96 per cent, while the Subaru Forester achieved the highest pedestrian safety, at 73 per cent, of the cars tested.

The safety assist category, where cars can score points for additional advanced driver assistance technology, was dominated by four cars: the Ford Kuga, Mitsubishi Outlander, Vauxhall Mokka and Volvo V60 Plug-In Hybrid all scored the maximum 100% rating. NCAP recognises the VW Golf as the new industry benchmark, scoring 71 per cent in the Safety Assist category thanks to multi collision brake technology, proactive occupant technology and lane assistance.
