Audi have announced their first diesel-powered 'S' model, in the form of the 3.0-litre bi-turbo diesel SQ5 TDI.
Prices start at £43,870 for the mid-sized, high performance SUV, and the car will arrive in the UK next spring.Owners can expect the SQ5 TDI to get from 0-62mph in just 5.1 seconds, go on to a electronically limited 155mph top speed and return 41.5 mpg on a combined cycle (claimed).
The 3.0-litre, twin turbo V6 diesel engine was introduced at the end of last year and has already featured in the Audi A6 All Road and luxurious Audi A7. Currently the engine is only available in one state of tune, with 309hp delivered between 3,900 and 4,500 rpm and 650Nm available from 1,450 and 2,800 rpm.

Despite these figures, the SQ5 TDI only emits 179g/km, a remarkably small amount for a car of this size and performance. To help emphasise the performance, though, is a sound actuator mounted in the exhaust system. This adds to the natural sound of the V6, making it more reminiscent of a classic sports car, claims Audi.
To help distinguish the SQ5 TDI from other Q5 variants, it has a sports suspension lowered by 30mm, 20-inch alloys with black brake callipers (complete with SQ5 logos), 'S' style bumpers, rear spoiler, quad exhaust pipes, aluminium-look door mirrors, xenon lights and daytime running lights. Inside, leather trim, a 6.5-inch colour screen, three-zone climate control and 180-watt sound system are also fitted as standard.
