Ferrari Tailor-Made launched: your tackiest desire fulfilled

Ferrari has launched a customisation programme called Tailor-Made, offering buyers the chance to have their every creative whim catered for before taking delivery of their new supercar.

The prices will be ludicrous, as will be the resulting cars, typified by the junk in the trunk of the FF below...
We'll call that one the FFS.

Of course, usually the person with the money to buy a Ferrari is also the person with the money to take it somewhere and have it retro fitted to the hilt. But this is the first time in decades that a buyer can have Ferrari itself do the work - short of having the company build a specific car, as this guy did.

Back in the '50s and '60s, Ferrari customers personalized their cars as part of the whole buying process. But since the corduroy '70s and decadent '80s Ferraris have been mass-produced, like common-as-muck superminis, so there hasn't been that sort of assumed bespoke service.

Tailor-Made sorts that anomaly out. Here's how Ferrari explains it:

[Tailor-Made is] a programme that permits owners to specify every last detail of their Ferrari, from the exterior livery colour to the cabin trim, via a completely unprecedented choice of finishes, accessories, materials, treatments and colours. All of which are the fruit of the ongoing research and development by the Ferrari Styling Centre, taking inspiration from the company's core values of innovation, elegance and passion.

Every buyer that opts to take part in the programme is assigned a person to assist them through the choices - and presumably to ensure that nothing too vomit-inducing gets through the gates of Maranello; taste and decency isn't always a given with the super rich.

Choices are split into three categories: Scuderia, Classica and Inedita. The first is inspired by racing, the second by Ferraris of yore, and the third "introduces an element of experimentation".

It's out of this third group that the ogres will come, no doubt. Want proof? Of the Inedita range, Ferrari says: "The denim-trimmed Ferrari California is a good example of what the collection offers." Case closed.

Of course there is no indication whatsoever about the price of all this stuff, which includes materials such as coloured carbon fibre weave, teak trim and cashmere.

But, as the famous saying goes, if you have to ask...you're probably an inquisitive motoring journalist, just trying to do his job.
